I’m a 56 year old Lakota male, learning how to live through Lakol Wicohan kin, Lifeway of the Friendly People. Wanbli Koyake –translated as Carries The Eagle– is my Lakota name. My people are mostly from Cheyenne River (Itazipco Lakota) rez and Lower Brule (Kul Wicasa) rez in north central, central, SD.

I make things according to Lifeway; which is worlds apart from western art. I also studied art in college and graduate school. To make a long story short, I quit graduate school in 1988; after two, torturous, years.

I’m still making things; but making “art” for me, nowadays, is merely an aspect of being human, of being a relative: we call it living according to our Original Instructions.
